Wage growth (or stagnation) – what really drives it?

The Mechanics of Industry Wages.

No one in their right mind would dispute that Pharmacists are paid well below what they deserve, especially given what you have all been dealing with throughout the last two years or so. The AJP reported on it in 2017, and again in 2021… but what can really be done about it? To answer this, it pays to look at what drives wage levels (and more importantly wage growth).

Short of employers deciding to increase wages across the board out of the goodness of their hearts, there are two main ways wages can increase across the entire industry:

  • The government increases the Award wage right across the sector (very unlikely to happen)
  • Pharmacists drive them up one person at a time

Now more than ever, Pharmacists have significant influence over the wages being offered to employees at all levels, even if they don’t realise it. And when that is the case, the two worst things you can do as a Pharmacist are:

  • Accept a low paying role, or
  • Stay in a poorly paying role

There has been a LOT of commentary on various media platforms lately around Pharmacist’s dissatisfaction with their current wages.…. NOW is the time to do something about it.

We have been placing Community Pharmacists for years now, and in every instance, that Pharmacist has received a pay rise.

What if money isn’t your primary motivator?

That’s fine! People change roles for a range of reasons – the point is, with the market the way it is, you can move for those things AND get yourself a pay increase.

In the last 12 months, Pharmacists we have placed have received, on average, an annual gross pay increase of almost $14,000. In one case recently, we placed a Pharmacist into a regional role with a package increase of over $60,000.

Do you have to move to the middle of nowhere to get a pay increase?

Absolutely not. It’s that simple.

If you’re tired of low wages, for yourself, and the industry, NOW is the time to do something about it.

If you’d like to talk, in the strictest of confidence, about the state of the job market for Pharmacists, simply click the link below to make a time that fits your schedule.

Do you HAVE to change jobs? Absolutely not. Does the market have opportunities for you to consider? Yes, it sure does.

short term job, Witness swearing on bible telling the truth

So you had a REALLY short-term job… should you disclose it?

We’ve (almost) all had a short term role, or maybe more than 1, in our careers to date. And while at first glance they may not look good on paper, sometimes they can be totally out of your control. You can’t control unexpected redundancies, lost contracts, terrible cultures or misrepresented roles. What you CAN control,
